Like many CYO/Family Campers, Rob Murray was able to experience camp both as a child and an adult.  He was always excited to come to camp to be with his family and friends, and camp was a highlight of his year.  He had a great way of relating to people of all ages at camp, and he was a very respectful, sincere and kind person. 

 

As a young adult, he proudly served in the US Marines.  He was so disappointed that he had to miss one CYO Camp while serving in the Marines; camp was so important to him. 

 

Tragically, his life was cut short at the age of 22 in May 1985 in a helicopter crash while he was still in the Marines stationed in Japan.

 

His family decided to use donated memorial money to create a scholarship program for CYO/Family Campers in honor of Rob, called the Rob Murray Fund. 

 

The Rob Murray Fund (RMF) has been in existence for the 30 years since Rob's death.  Rob's family didn't expect the RMF to exist beyond the initial memorial funds, but the RMF has continued to serve people in financial need for camp funds through the generous donations of Family Camp members and some occasional outside resources. 

 

Over the years, hundreds of people in some financial distress have been able to come to camp with the assistance of the RMF.  It has helped single people, couples, families with children and even people who were on committee that year. 

 

As Rob's childhood CYO Camp friend, I know he would be thrilled to know so many people got to come to camp because of a fund in his honor.
